Contrary to the old saying, people DO judge a book by its cover -- and by how it looks inside! Nine times out of ten, "homemade" book designs are glaringly obvious, and less competitive.
Instead, consider working with a professional to design the cover and/or interior of your book, and your Web site.

For those on a small budget, here is another option: If you are located near a college or university, you may also want to contact the School of Graphic Design, to inquire about hiring a graduate student.Quality and pricing of design services vary widely. It pays to compare, get references, and query fellow writers independently. Visit Google Groups and search for writing discussion groups where you can compare notes.
